Anguilla island in carribbean

Located in the Eastern Caribbean, Anguilla is a small island that has several smaller islets and has become one of the more popular travel destinations in the region. A British Overseas Territory, it offers the typical tropical climate that you expect from a Caribbean island, but Anguilla manages to be one of the more impressive destinations for anyone visiting the area.

It goes without saying that the 33 beaches in Anguilla are what draws people’s interest, but it is also the activities and the places to eat that make visiting the island a complete experience. Because the island itself is relatively small, you can rent a car or take a car plan that allows you to see the sights. What follows are some of the best locations, activities, and things to eat that will make your stay in Anguilla even more memorable.

Locations

Anguilla is more than a beautiful island, it is a serene world that offers many attractions for you and your family.

Beaches: There are plenty of great beaches, which is the selling point for Anguilla. While all of them offer good reasons to visit, the three main beaches are as follows;

  • Meads Bay

  • Rendezvous Bay

Each one offers an exceptional experience, including the beautiful turquoise water, sandy beaches, and nearby restaurants and clubs that make all of them exciting places to visit.

Little Bay: This is a popular place in Anguilla for a good reason, Little Bay offers spectacular scenery and many different water activities all in one place. The bay itself offers boating, kayaking, and other water activities for a low cost. You can even do some snorkeling and scuba diving which makes the trip even more memorable.

Sandy Island: The little islet known as Sandy Island may not seem much more than its namesake, an island made of sand. However, what makes this little spot in the sea so special is the incredible restaurant that serves up food and drinks while you drink in the view. A mere $10 boat ride from the shore, this island offers you a full day of relaxation which you will certainly enjoy.

Activities

There are certainly many things to do in Anguilla besides walk on the beach and soak in the sun. This popular tourist destination is loaded with things to do and you can enjoy them on your time. You can start with a visit to the Heritage Museum, which offers the fascinating history of the island. After that, you can check out these activities.

Driving: You may not think of driving itself as an activity, especially given how small Anguilla is, but it is one of the more enjoyable activities that you can do. This is because your trip offers new sights and wonders every mile or two, making it a pleasure to take in the beach, find a great activity, or locate a wonderful place to eat. Driving is quite popular in Anguilla and you’ll discover why if you rent a vehicle for the day.

Sailing: One of the most popular activities, you can enjoy traditional sailing off the coast of Anguilla which will take you to many wonderful places in the sea. You can jump off the boat and snorkel in the beautiful blue waters, seeing incredible sights underwater. Plus, many boats will have food and drinks ready when you have completed your adventure.

Shopping: Admittedly, if there is one area that Anguilla does not excel, it is the shopping experience at least compared to some other Caribbean islands. Part of this is due to the small size and emphasis on beaches and outdoor activities, but part of this is a bad rap as well. Some of the better stores include;

  • Irie Life
  • Four Season
  • Limin Boutique
  • Malliouhana
  • Sea Spray Boutique

They are a little expensive, but if you are looking for a souvenir for your trip or a nifty outfit, then you should check out these places.

Eat

The dining in Anguilla is second to none in the Caribbean. There are several reasons for this, but the main one is the local delicacies that you can enjoy. About the only downside is that some of the more delectable items may be hard to find or expensive because of their demand, but they are well worth the cost.

Crayfish: You may have seen crayfish in New Orleans, but they are nothing like those found in Anguilla. The crayfish found around the island are the size of prawn and many who enjoy this delicacy swear that it is better than lobster. Expect to pay a premium price to enjoy a plate of crayfish, but if it is available on the menu, it is well worth getting.

Gwen’s Reggae Grill: The combination of live reggae music and delicious rum punch will certainly fit the bill even if the drinks are a little expensive. Still, it is located on one of the best beaches in all of Anguilla and a great way to finish your day of adventure.

Ken’s BBQ: You may not associate the Caribbean with barbeque, but Ken’s BBQ will beg to differ. It is one of the hot spots for eating on the island, making it quite the popular attraction thanks to their ribs and chicken which is prepared to perfection. Plus, it is inexpensive, making it one of the most affordable places to fill up on the island if you are trying to stick to a budget.

Another tips is to avoid the traditional hotels and instead stay in a villa. Villas are perfect for larger families and groups not only because they keep everyone together, but also because they are quite affordable. You can get a villa with several bedrooms, bathrooms, and a big deck to enjoy a wonderful view of the sea. It helps that you can cook your own food and save money while spending time together.

There are so many places to see, things to do, and places to eat that you will definitely enjoy your time in Anguilla.
