Churches: There is little doubt about the influence of religion in Cologne and the many historic churches are representative of that history. In terms of faith, but also in architecture, the many churches of Cologne stand out for their beauty, strength, and stunning design. You can’t go wrong with visiting most of the churches in the downtown area, but St. Martin’s is an excellent place to start thanks to its incredible design.

However, a great place to start is the Ludwig Museum that features works from legendary artists such as Picasso. Old Town: The oldest part of Cologne dates back to the Roman Empire, which means that you can see a wide variety of different architecture styles all in one place. In Old Town, you’ll see the many unique houses, little shops, and walk along the cobbled streets which have changed little in hundreds of years. It will be like stepping back in time to a place that helps you understand what life was like many years ago.

Rheinauhafen: This is the newest district in Cologne and stands as a stark reminder of the differences between the old and the new. A former port area, the district has been transformed thanks to new, sleek modern buildings with incredible views. The place itself is bristling with activity and makes for the perfect follow-up when vising Old Town. Be sure to go at sunset and see the glorious views during this remarkable time.
